             GALACTIC EXPLOSIONS!

Explosions in space can be much greater than some on Earth.

Here are the top 5 galactic explosions ever! (the fifth one happened on Earth by a meteorite)
5  The Explosion that Ended the Reign of the Dinosaurs
This explosion was made by a massive meteorite. This event happened 65 million years ago and it brought up so much dust that the sun was hidden, no plants grew and the dinosaurs died out. People think that this explosion's force was equivalent to 96 trillion tons of TNT!

4 GRB 080319B
This explosion was a burst of gamma rays. Gamma ray bursts are extremely rare. On March 19 2008, this explosion occured and it could be seen by the naked eye. It happened about 7.5 billion light years away.

3SN2006gy
This supernova explosion was discovered on 16th September 2006. Till now, it is the largest supernova explosion recorded in history and it happened 230 million light years away from Earth. SN2006gy was a star which was 150 times the size of our Sun! It caused this explosion by collapsing on itself. Supernova that collapse on themselves normally form such a big explosion that they manage to create matter that collapses on itself and creates more explosions.

2GRB 080916C
This explosion was gamma ray burst first recorded on September 16th, 2008.It took place 12.2billion light years away and lasted 23 minutes; a very long time for a gamma ray burst. The explosion was equivalent to a trillion Tsar Bombas (a hydrogen bomb made by the Soviet Union which gave the biggest man made explosion yet) exploding every second for 110 billion years. GRB 080916C gave out 7000 times the energy that the Sun is expected to put out in its lifetime!

      Big Bang
Yes, the biggest explosion ever but.....the Big Bang was not really an explosion since explosions happen with matter expanding through space and the big bang created space! That is why, since the universe is still growing, one can say that the big bang is still occurring. We do not have any record of the big bang or if it even happened at all.
